Effects of Sensory Integration Intervention Combined With App-Based Visual Perception Training on Attention, Visual Perception Ability, and Daily Living Ability of Children With Developmental Disabilities
Kwon Mi-Hwa

Abstract
Purpose: In this study, by applying sensory integration intervention combined with app-based visual perceptiontraining to children with developmental disabilities, the purpose of this study was to confirm the change inattention, visual perception, and daily living ability.

Methods: A total of 20 children with developmental disabilities were randomly assigned to two groups, and apre-post-test control group design was applied. The intervention was applied 1:1 with the therapist for 50 minper session, twice a week, for a total of 24 sessions. A common sensory integration program was provided for thefirst 30 min, followed by visual perception training using the app for the experiment group and paper-based visualperception training for the control group for 20 min. As a tool used to check the effectiveness of the intervention,a Digit Span Test (DST) was used for attention, Korean-Developmental Test of Visual Perception 2 (K-DTVP 2)was used for visual perception, and the Wee Functional Independence Measure for children (FIM) was used fordaily living ability.

Results: Significant effects within each group were verified in all areas of the experiment group and the areas otherthan the attention of the control group. There were no significant differences between groups.

Conclusion: Sensory integration is an effective intervention for the visual perception and daily life performance ofchildren with developmental disabilities. In particular, sensory integration intervention combined with app-basedvisual perception training is more effective in improving attention. In the future, positive effects on functionalimprovement can be expected through the use of various tools suitable for the interests and abilities of childrenwith developmental disabilities in the field of occupational therapy.
